Professor Helen Borland, Director, Office for Postgraduate Research will lead a discussion of the policies and procedures relating to supervision. As well as providing an overview of the new policies around registration, Professor Borland is keen to hear from early career researchers about their supervision experiences and professional development needs. | AINSE Research Awards (Project Grants) 2009 Series now open, close 15 September
AINSE provides funds to assist researchers from member universities (VU is a member of AINSE) to gain access to ANSTO and other AINSE facilities. Awards are awarded for one year commencing in January. Details

| Priority Research and Innovation Projects: Round 3, Targeted Stategic Full Application Call - Close 6 October 2008
On 13 June 2008, a targeted, strategic PRIP Expression of Interest (EOI) call, to three areas of research strength, was made. The three areas were highlighted through internal evaluation of research strengths, with the following areas invited to apply (i) Social Inclusion, Cultural Diversity and Wellbeing in the Workplace and Community; (ii) Active Living and Elite Performance (iii) Tourism and Hospitality. The three EOIs received were considered by the PRIP Governance Committee at the July 21 major PRIP review.
Based on the PRIP Governance Committee recommends, we would therefore like to invite full PRIP applications frrom the following:
(i) Social Inclusion, Cultural Diversity and Wellbeing in the Workplace and Community – for Project titled: Refugee and Migrant Settlement and Wellbeing.
(ii) Active Living and Elite Performance - application giving emphasis to elite performance as well as active living.
(iii) Tourism and Hospitality - Tourism Futures project to concentrate on Wellness and lifestyle products; Small business; and Labour markets research nodes.
The guidelines, used for the previous PRIP rounds, are attached. The closing date for full application to Zana Stefanovski, Office for Research, is Monday, 6 October 2008.
| ARC 2009 ARC Linkage - Round 2 Procedures and Timeframe
The Linkage Projects Funding Rules for funding commencing in 2009 are available from the ARC website
The main changes to the Linkage Projects Funding Rules from the previous year (proposals submitted in 2007) are summarised at Section 5 of the rules. The ARC will provide further notification advising when Application Forms and other relevant documentation become available.
As part of improving the way we process our applications and provide feedback, the Office for Research together with the Associate Deans (Research & Research Training) have agreed to implement the following application process for the 2009 ARC Linkage - Round 2.

Preliminary Proposals Close: 12 September 2008 | VicHealth as a Potential Industry Partner on ARC Linkage Project
VicHealth invites applications from researchers to collaborate with VicHealth as a (potential Industry Partner) on a ARC Linkage Project.
An application process will be put in place to consider applications from researchers to determine which projects they wish to support as an Industry Partner. An application form and guidelines will be made available shortly.
Applications will close with the Office for Research on Friday, 1 August, 2008 and with VicHealth on Friday 8 August 2008. Contact Palmina Fichera on ext 4707 for details.
| Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research 2007
Integrity in research, meeting community expectations, and handling allegations of misconduct are the focus of a new national code released by the NHMRC, the Australian Research Council (ARC) and Universities Australia. The Code replaces the Joint NHMRC/AVCC Statement and Guidelines on Research Practice (1997). Document can be downloaded from NHMRC website
